Classic homestyle refried beans slow-cooked with garlic, cumin, and chili powder until perfectly creamy and flavorful.

- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 cup yellow onion, finely chopped
- ½ teaspoons salt
- 4 whole garlic cloves, minced
- 1 teaspoons chili powder
- ½ teaspoons ground cumin
- 16 ounces dry pinto beans
- 1 cup water
- 4 tablespoons cilantro, chopped
- 2 tablespoons lime juice
Instructions

Cook the dry pinto beans according to package instructions.

In a medium pot, heat oil on medium heat.

Sauté onions with salt until translucent.

Stir in garlic, chili powder, and cumin.

Stir in drained beans and water and cook covered for 5 minutes.

Uncover and reduce heat to low.

Mash beans with potato masher or fork to desire consistency.

Cook for several minutes and then remove from heat.

Stir in cilantro and lime juice.
